Our Training Philosophy
Chrysalis Network (CN) respects the knowledge and perspective of every participant and works to create a learning environment that honors their experiences and varying learning styles. Through interactive activities, participants will have the opportunity to fully engage themselves in learning. CN believes that the eradication of sexual and dating violence cannot occur without the elimination of all forms of oppression including sexism, heterosexism, racism, and classism. CN’s work stems from this foundation and will be incorporated into all workshops and trainings.
Our Prevention Approach
Chrysalis Network follows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) socio-ecological approach to prevention. This asserts that to achieve the best outcomes, all levels of a community (e.g. students, educators, parents/caregivers, policy makers, etc.) need to work to end sexual violence and to do so at the same time. The CDC defines primary prevention as an approach that takes place before sexual violence has occurred to prevent initial perpetration or victimization. In other words, the only way to stop victimization is by stopping perpetration.
As such, we take this approach in all of our work by:
- centering perpetrator behaviors and the culture that promote and sustain those behaviors as the problem;
- creating trauma-informed spaces where all survivors feel visible and comfortable to report; and
- helping schools and organizations feel confident in their approach to hold harm doers accountable in meaningful ways.
