Puzzles ’24 Home Workshop App Keynotes OVW/CE CN Home Workshop Proposal & Poster Session Application Solving the Campus Sexual Assault & Dating Violence Puzzle: Inspiring Action & Healing for Justice 2024 Virtual Conference Thank you for your interest in sharing your great work with us. Workshop and poster proposals are due by 11:59pm on Monday September 16, 2024. Please remember to copy and paste the text you enter into this application into a WORD document as a backup in case of technical submission issues. Contact Juliette Grimmett with any questions. What a virtual workshop or poster session will look like: Breakout sessions are 75 minutes, Panels are 60, and Poster sessions are 15. You can facilitate your workshop or poster session live, or pre-record your session (we will help you with this!). Either way, you will need to be available during the time of your session so that you can respond to the live chat and Q&A during your slot. (Panels will not be pre-recorded). Each session will have two support staff - a technical assistant and someone to monitor the chat and facilitate the Q&A for the presenter(s). While breakouts and panels are generally one-time programs, accepted poster presenters can present 1, 2, or all 3 days of the conference – it is their choice. Guidelines for submitting proposals Proposals must be submitted by 11:59pm on Monday, September, 16 2024. You are welcome to submit as many proposals as you like. All applicants should have an understanding of intersectionality. In other words, you must recognize and acknowledge that everyone’s experiences are different, particularly for those from traditionally marginalized communities and within systems of power and dominance. Even though your session will be online, presenters are responsible for ensuring that all participants feel visible (ask participants to introduce themselves in the chat), included (provide opportunities for participants to share ideas in the chat), heard (repeat/restate comments seen in the chat), and brave (encourage participation, validate points, and remain open when comments may not necessarily align with your ideals). Proposals that focus on student experience, skill development, practical application, lessons learned/results, and data-driven strategies and programs are encouraged. Breakouts must be developed for a 60-minute presentation and 15-minute Q&A or 75 minutes with Q&A built-in throughout the session. Panels should consider at least 15 minutes for live Q&A. Sessions should be as engaging and interactive as possible, even if your session is pre-recorded. For example – presentations could have images and videos and your voice should have inflection. If accepted, we will provide you a tip sheet and guidance on how to do this. For your application, here are links to resources: The Guide to Online Workshops and 16 Clever Tips for Facilitating Great Virtual Workshops Posters should be visually engaging. If you only have an idea for a panel, but have not determined the panelists at this time, you can still submit. Applicants will be notified of acceptance status via email by October 1, 2024. Priority AreasThis year's conference seeks to highlight the relentless and brave work being done around the world to respond to and prevent sexual and dating violence on college campuses, with a focus on the tagline: Inspiring Action & Healing for Justice. The following are this year’s priority areas: Types of Program: Student & Survivor-led Sessions Spanish Language Sessions Intermediate and advanced levels Programs highlighting specific tools (i.e. videos, activities, worksheets, etc.) Using technology/social media in our work Multi-disciplinary presenters (i.e. TIX Coordinator + advocate) Focus Areas Advocacy + Counseling: complex cases (i.e. survivors dealing with IPV, stalking, and mental health), streamlining services, effective websites/apps, social media outreach, long-term support for survivors with limited financial resources, and dismantling mandated reporting practices. Community Building: advancing our work, building connected networks, and meeting our communities where they are through evolution, justice, joy, rebirth, unity, accountability, growth, and empowerment. Intersecting Identities + Legislative Barriers: specialized survivor support and prevention education programs for students from marginalized communities including those who are neurodiverse or from disability communities, BIPOC, and LGBTQI+. How does recent legislation impact our work? i.e. anti-DEI, anti-LGBTQI+, book bans, anti-reproductive rights, anti-affirmative action, anti-gun reform, etc. Prevention: creative solutions to decreased student engagement, incorporating restorative justice principles in prevention programming, community-tailored prevention programs, and programs for faith-based institutions and among API, indigenous, neurodivergent, and LGBTQI+ communities. Respondent Issues: defamation suits, retaliation, effective and meaningful accountability, and campus respondent services. Students Leading: peer education, student activism, social media, student-created and led prevention and awareness programs. We want to learn about all of it! Title IX: understanding the newest changes, effective Title IX response, nuanced accommodations, balancing compliance with survivor advocacy, moving beyond compliance by putting the survivor’s needs at the center of the Title IX response, institutional courage, and sustaining Title IX Coordinator positions.
